I was called into to help a family that was adgitated by the state of their living room but had no idea how to fix it and make the petite room fit their needs. It was painted a deep brick red, and had hand me down furniture. The first thing I knew I had to do was hang the TV over the firplace. In small spaces there isn't room for multiple focal points, considering that the fireplace dominates this room it was an obvious choice. As was the secitional sofa, ladder desk, armchairs that weren't overwhelming and funcional coffee table. The owners had a beautiful painting of the red rocks common in the homeowner's native Colorado that had to be on display. I neutralized everything else in the room to work with the painting as the centerpiece for color and style. The white walls, with the same color trim, white couch and desk help to blur the parameters of the room making it feel lofty and a bit more expansive. I added a high gloss white stroage cabinet that hangs on the wall to maintain a light and airy feel as well as help with easy sweeping. Warm touches of wood, help bring balance to the white palatte. Black pops and gold accents are a perfect choice. The sconce is a plug-in, black cord stays add some character to the light fixture and wall. The homeowners exisiting red rug fit in perfectly. The room feels calm and cozy and functions for the whole family.
